From Andrea Teaching piano to Bethy was a pleasure. She enjoyed practicing and always gave 100% in her lessons. Music came naturally to Bethy, and she played with confidence, grace and ease. When she sat her first exam, her mum Emma described her as being ‘as cool as a cucumber’. Her combination of hard work and natural ability enabled her to master and understand many different styles of music. One of the first pieces she learnt to play well was Vivaldi’s Spring, and she later went onto being my only pupil to learn a difficult 15th century English folk song ‘Agincourt’ and she played it well. Bethy was an inquisitive musician, and introduced me to the score of the 21st century Hollywood film ‘La La Land’ and her favourite piece was ‘City of Stars’. She talked a lot about wanting to form a band at school, and music was absolutely one of her great loves.
